I trap woodchucks using peaches. I string a line of peaches all the way into the trap. It definitely works. Also -- I noticed that veggies that are covered by row covers can not be detected by woodchucks. My new problem this year is deer!

Wow! Based on your research, it sounds like people wage outright war on woodchucks. What will you do with the pest once you catch it?

Although I am reading this a year late, your post beautifully describes the much of the same richness that I felt with my family at the 2011 tree cutting event.
Thanks to all who toil in the fields and files on behalf of Land's Sake.

I realized by reading in your News letter that Bill McElwain passed away in 2009. Bill helped me (among other things), and a friend take young city youths on a week long spring hike through the NY Appalachian mountain trail (back in 1974). A most memorable experience. It is strange how my mothers passing has brought up so many memories of my 'life' in Weston.

My Mother passed away leaving me with many fond memories of her life. I am grateful for you having written a tribute to her work with 'Lands Sake'... I had a hard time growing up, understanding some of the things my mother did or the battles she fought... including among many others, fighting for the preservation and conservation of the Weston Town Reservoir in Boston at the State House where I accompanied her and spoke out for her cause. My mother was founded in tradition and the present situation in the world has proved some of her ideas to be very 'avant garde'... I learned a great deal and am only now slowly able to appreciate the things she gave me throughout her life... I miss her dearly.

I love this!!!! You all are doing such great work together. This is precisely the spirit in which Land's Sake was founded! Very few of us understand fully how much hard work is involved in this kind of effort and it takes much love and dedication to follow through with it. Thank you Melanie and Doug and everyone!!!!

Rav Yosef, how wonderful to read this post, and to know that you are continuing both parts of your work! Will you go for the trifecta and include music somehow? I remember very well the afternoon you spent with me and Akiva teaching us "Ozi v'zimrat Yah..." It's still in my ears and in my heart.

I love this. Thank you. My Dad is a retired Rabbi. When I was a kid in the 60's I wanted him to be a "farmer Rabbi" - a Rabbi in the winter and a farmer in the summer. Now I see that it is possible!
